a poem by tawana williams

LORD, WHY ME?
I often asked the question, Lord why me?
You must have seen something in me, which I didn't see
I know that I was not a mistake, because mistakes you
never make
How much more of this hurt and shame, Lord, how much more
can I take?
You see, man looks at the outside, but you looked on the inside,
and made sure that my heart was pure
You gave me power, and the will to fight, and you knew that
I would endure
But it wasn't easy, there was always a struggle, because I
always had to fit in
And I learned real quick that trying to fit in, always lead to sin
The devil slipped in and packaged sin, and made it look real good
I did things for money and drugs, I never thought I would
I should've none better, and listened to my elders, but, I learned
a valuable lesson
I went through so much, and the Lord brought me out, because he
knew, that I would be a blessing
Who would've ever thought that you would use me as you do, to
change the many lives of others, but I thank you for the spirit that
gave to me, to help my sisters and brothers
Lord, you saved me just in the knick of time, when I thought that it
was the end
I shall never let those words come out of my mouth, Lord why me,
ever again

an inspirational story

Positive Hero+++++++++++
Unarmed BUT Dangerous
The eagle is so powerful that it can even soar above an approaching storm.
It catches the wind by the tail and then rides the air currents. It does not fear.
It does not panic.

It only watches and waits until just the right moment and then aligns itself with
the coming force of nature. Then it rides, glides, and soars. Now just imagine
that same eagle without wings...

Without its wings, the eagle would be powerless. It would not be able to soar
above the earth, and we would miss the sight of him in flight. It would starve.
Without its wings, this magnificent bird of prey would die.

Like that eagle, we have all been created to soar. With outstretched arms,
we wait for our chance to catch a wave and soar. But my story is a bit different.
I learned to fly, even without wings.

Where do you turn when pain destroys every dream you ever had? When every
door of hope has been shut to you? For every fighter who has ever stood alone,
one woman's life tells the story of victory dawning after the darkest night.

Tawana Williams was a victim of brutal medical negligence. Born without arms
and with impaired use of her legs. Her compelling life story reveals a will to
survive the anguish of physical defect and the shame of abuse and isolation.

Unable to fight with human hands, she fought in spirit, and yet lives to stand
through the grace and courage. This is why she likes to tell others that because
of her relationship with God, she considers herself "Un-armed but Dangerous! "

Born in Wilson, NC, in 1963, Tawana was trained as a baby to use her feet as
hands. She can do just about anything that someone with arms can do, even
braid hair and write a check.

The words "I can't" are not in Tawana Williams' vocabulary. Tawana will simply
tell you that if you decide to do something in your life, you can do it. She knows
this lesson because she lives it everyday of her life.

I pray that my story will encourage you to live without excuses and even if your
wings get broken, make the attempt to fly. I believe that if you will try, then you
will live. If you don't, then like the eagle without wings, your dreams will surely die.

Tawana is the author of two books, "I'm Different but I Can" and "Unarmed but
Dangerous," which was released in 2005. She is also a professional speaker,
artist, poet, and vocalist. Tawana captivates her audiences with her boldness
and her ability to do what others might think is impossible.

"My mission is to make a positive impact in the lives of people, primarily through my message of hope and inspiration. I want to assist them in achieving their highest potentials and goals by sharing my message of triumph." --Tawana Williams

One Jar of Mayonnaise and 2 cups of coffee

One Jar of Mayonnaise and 2 cups of coffee.

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours ina day isn't enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in frontof him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large andempty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He thenasked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas betweenthe golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. Theyagreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Ofcourse, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jarwas full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table andpoured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty spacebetween the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you torecognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important thingsour family, your children, your health, your friends and your favourite passionsnd if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house andyour car.The sand is everything else--the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golfballs.

The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important toyou.

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out todinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house andfix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first--the things that reallymatter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffeerepresented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."Please share this with someone you care about...
